The courts are located behind the Jonathan Broxton Park Main Office at 465 Burke Veterans Parkway, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, while experienced players can enjoy a quick, fast-paced, and competitive game.
Pickleball Basics
- Combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.
- Can be played indoors or outdoors.
- Played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.
- Played using a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
- Can be played as doubles or singles.
Pickleball in Burke County
Coach Joe Blankenbaker helped bring the idea of organized pickleball to Burke County after seeing the sport's popularity in his hometown of Portland, Indiana.
At the local community center there, seven pickleball courts were regularly in use, with players often waiting for a court to become available. Seeing how popular and accessible the sport had become inspired Coach Joe to help introduce more players in Burke County to the game.
